MVS have recently the new Cystic Fibrosis Unit on the grounds of Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar. The works included a new 2 storey stand-alone unit, circa 315m² that links into the main hospital at ground floor level. The construction of the new unit comprises a structural concrete frame with Split fluted blockwork cavity wall construction to match the existing hospital. Internal modifications were required to the existing out-patient department as well as the complete refurbishment of 2 No. existing Consulting Rooms as part of the works. Due to the location of the project, MVS also had to carry out an in-depth site services investigation which involved excavation of existing services locations, CCTV camera surveys and the re-routing of existing live underground services.
The new Cystic Fibrosis Unit includes facilities such as 2 new Isolation Rooms with Technical and Staff Facilities, 3 no Offices, Consultant Room, Kitchen Facilities, Education Lab and Conference Room. This was all carried out in careful collaboration with the Maintenance section, IT section & Infection Control Unit of the Hospital.
